Lake Kivu

Lake Kivu – Chill, Coffee & Sunset Vibes

yo so if you just wanna breathe out, escape the busy energy and soak up some peace by the water... this trip is it. Lake Kivu is that quiet magic in Rwanda most people sleep on. you get them calm waves, sweet mountain air, local fishermen singing at dawn, and coffee so fresh it literally grows right behind you it's not just chilling tho — we’ll slide in a boat ride across the lake, a lil visit to the coffee plantations (yes, you get to taste it hot right where it grows), some warm natural springs, and the kinda sunsets that make you forget your phone even exists. it's the trip you take when you need to feel human again. and yeah, there’s beach time, lake fish grill, and if you're up for it, biking or kayaking. if you're not? cool — just nap with that breeze. no one’s judging.

Includes/Excludes

Includes

  • So yeah, when you book this trip, you're actually getting quite a bit bundled in — like, you don’t have to stress over the boring stuff. First, you get full ground transport throughout the trip in a comfy car (with AC of course, coz Rwanda sun don’t play sometimes). We’ll pick you up straight from Kigali Airport and drop you off when it’s all done. All your park entry fees are already sorted, including the golden one — the gorilla trekking permit (which is super rare and must be booked early). Accommodation is covered too for all 6 nights, usually nice mid-range lodges or we can tweak it depending on your vibe. You’ll have an experienced guide or driver with you all the way, who lowkey becomes your friend by the end of the week. And yeah, we throw in breakfast daily and a couple of lunches here and there — plus bottled water during drives so you stay fresh.

Excludes

  • Now... a few things you gotta handle yourself. Flights into Rwanda aren’t covered in this trip cost, so you’ll need to book your own ticket into Kigali. Travel insurance? Yeah, totally up to you — we highly recommend it though (especially for gorilla trekking days). Tips for guides, porters or trackers aren't included either — it’s not mandatory but kind of expected, and it goes a long way to support the local team. Any snacks, drinks, or souvenirs you wanna grab along the way? That’s all on you (so keep a little cash ready for local markets or those spicy brochettes). And if you wanna do something not already listed — like go zip-lining or book a spa — just let us know and we’ll help you organize, but it won’t be in the original price.

Frequently Asked Questions About This Rwanda Trip

Do I need a visa to enter Rwanda?

yup, but it’s super easy. most nationalities can get a visa on arrival or apply online. honestly, it’s quick and affordable (around $50), and Rwanda’s one of the smoothest entries in East Africa. if you're from the African Union, it's even free for some countries.

Is gorilla trekking really worth it tho?

bruh… yes. 1000x yes. it’s emotional, wild, unforgettable — you'll literally lock eyes with a mountain gorilla in its home. people say it’s a once-in-a-lifetime thing and they’re not exaggerating. tiring? a bit. worth it? always.

How fit do I need to be for the trekking part?

not a gym rat? no worries. you don’t have to be an athlete, but a bit of stamina helps. the hike can be steep or muddy depending on weather, but you can go at your own pace. plus, porters can help with your bag and give support (they’re amazing humans btw).

What’s the food like during the trip?

you’re in for a treat! think grilled goat brochettes, fried plantains, fresh avocados, spicy sambaza (lake fish), and loads of tropical fruit. we mix local dishes with international options at the lodges — and yep, vegetarians are covered too.

Can I charge my phone/camera everywhere we go?

yeah for sure. all hotels and lodges have electricity, and most vehicles have charging ports too. just bring a universal adapter (Rwanda uses type C & J plugs — same as most of Europe).

What kind of clothes should I pack?

layers are your best friend! Rwanda’s climate changes depending on where you are — Kigali is warm, Volcanoes is cool, Akagera can be hot. comfy hiking shoes, long pants, a light rain jacket, and something cozy for evenings. oh and don’t forget your hat + sunscreen.

Is it safe to travel around Rwanda?

100%. Rwanda is one of the safest countries in Africa (seriously, even solo travelers say so). it’s clean, chill, and people are super welcoming. we’ll also be with you the whole time, so no stress.

Can I customize this trip a bit?

heck yes. wanna skip Akagera and add Nyungwe? spend more time at Lake Kivu? do a romantic version or group trip with your friends? we got you. just hit us up early so we can adjust permits & bookings.
